Limelight Theatre Presents The Miracle Worker

02.27.2009

The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson, opens March 13th on the Matuza Mainstage at the Limelight Theatre.  Directed by Todd Lidh, the play tells the story of the deaf and blind child Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan, the teacher who broke through her darkness and helped Helen learn to communicate with the world.

“As someone raised in Alabama,I’ve always had a special love of the Helen Keller story,” said Director Lidh.  “As a young boy, I actually played the role of Helen’s brother, James, and I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to direct the play on the Limelight stage. I expect most people have seen the play or the movie, and I don’t aim to disappoint; however, I am confident that this production will add something new to the familiar story.”

The cast includes, in order of appearance, Bob Feldheim, Grayson Ross, Scott Broughton, Daisye Tutor, Quin New, Linda Mignon, Chris Pritchard, Margaret Kaler, Rebecca Johnston, Tara Redding and Eddie Milton.  Devon Kodzis plays Annie Sullivan and the role of Helen has been double cast with Emily Onimus and Tess Reiman.

Sadly, The Miracle Worker has been in the recent spotlight due to the death of author Gibson at his Stockbridge MA home last November.  Interest has also been rekindled over the life of Helen Keller with the discovery of a rare photograph of the young Helen sitting outside cradling a doll and holding her beloved teacher’shand.  Experts believe this is the first photograph taken of the two women together.

The Miracle Worker runs March 13 through April 5 with a special champagne reception on opening night.  Showtimes are Thursday,Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2.00. Tickets are $20 - $25, with a special Terrific Tuesday performance March17 featuring two tickets for $25.
