Auditions for Limelight Theatre's "A Raisin in the Sun"

St. Augustine, FL-Auditions for Limelight Theatre’s February, 2008 production of “A Raisin In The Sun”, by Lorraine Hansberry, will be held Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 2PM, and Monday Dec. 3rd at 6PM. Auditions are at the Limelight Theatre, 11 Old Mission Ave., St. Augustine. For more information please contact the Theater at 904-825-1164.
Patsy Butler will direct the production, with consulting by James Bullock. Auditioning actors will be asked to do cold readings, and slate. Also please bring a current headshot and resume. Auditions start promptly at 2:00 pm on Saturday and 6:00pm on Monday; actors are asked to arrive early to complete paperwork.
Cast includes:
Walter; A strong character, workingman, father. African American male, age 30 – 50’s.
Ruth; Devoted wife and mother. African American female, age 30 – 50’s.
Mama; Matriarch of the family. African American female, age 40 and up.
Benetha; Idealistic, pre-med student. African American female, age 20 – 30’s.
Mr. Linder; Businessman. Caucasian male, age 30 – 50’s.
Asagai; An older foreign exchange student. African American male, age 20 – 40’s.
George Murchinson; African American male, age 20 – 40’s.
Bobo; A friend of Walter’s. African American male, age 30 – 50’s.
Travis; Son of Walter and Ruth, age 11 – 14.
The Limelight Theatre will present the 30th anniversary edition of “A Raisin in the Sun” February 2008. Written in 1959,this show is as relevant today as when first performed. A story of a family being torn apart, caught between economic ruin and their dreams, it was recently performed on Broadway with Phylicia Rashad (co-star of the Bill Cosby show) and Hip-Hop recording artist, P. Ditty to rousing applause.
The production run is February 8 – March 9, 2007, with performances on Thursdays-Saturday nights, Sunday matinees, 4 Saturday matinees and one extra Tuesday night performance. There is pay.
The Limelight Theatre is located in the Joukowsky Family Foundation Center for the Performing Arts at 11 Old Mission Ave., uptown St. Augustine. Box Office hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00am–4:00pm. (904) 825-1164.
